Which one for which job

A cheap VPS is only cheap if you can run it. If you have never used SSH, budget either the time to learn or the money for a managed layer on top. An unmanaged box you cannot secure is not a bargain.

Prices checked September 2026. Hosting prices change often and vary by region and term. Confirm the current number on the provider's own site before you buy. Where we could not verify a figure we left it out.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best cheap VPS in 2026?

Hetzner for raw performance, with fast NVMe and generous included traffic from around €4.59 a month. Contabo if you want the most RAM and storage for the price and your workload is not latency-sensitive. DigitalOcean if you value documentation and developer experience.

Is a cheap VPS good enough for a website?

Yes, if you can administer it. A $5 VPS outperforms most shared hosting and gives you full control. The cost is that you handle the operating system, web stack, security updates and backups yourself, or pay for a managed control panel.

Cheap VPS or managed hosting?

A cheap unmanaged VPS if you are comfortable with Linux and want the most power for the money. Managed hosting if you would rather pay someone to run the server so you can focus on the site.
