The errors we see people make, and how to avoid each one.
Not asking the broker where their server is
Traders pick a VPS in New York, then find their broker hosts MT4 in London (LD4) or a regional datacenter. Before you order anything, open MetaTrader, note the trade server name under File then Login, and ask the broker's support which datacenter it is in. Then match the VPS to that.
Buying a general web host instead of a VPS
Shared web hosting cannot run MetaTrader: there is no persistent Windows desktop and long-running processes get killed. You need a VPS (or dedicated server) with Windows Server, or a Linux VPS running MT4 under Wine. 'Web hosting' and 'forex VPS' are different products.
Under-spec'ing RAM and then wondering why the EA freezes
One MT4 chart with an EA needs about 1 GB plus Windows overhead. People buy a 512 MB or 1 GB plan, add three charts, and the terminal stutters or the EA misses ticks. Budget 1 GB per active chart and round up.
Forgetting to set MetaTrader to auto-start
A VPS reboots occasionally. If MetaTrader is not set to launch on login with the chart and EA loaded, your strategy silently stops after a reboot. Configure auto-start and enable 'AutoTrading' in the terminal, and test it by rebooting once.
