SiteGround runs on Google Cloud with its own caching stack (SG Optimizer), staging, automated daily backups, and a support team that resolves WordPress issues rather than pointing you at a knowledge base. For someone who does not want to configure caching or think about backups, that is genuine value.
The renewal jump
The entry plan starts around $2.99 a month on a one-year term and renews near $17.99. That is one of the largest percentage increases among mainstream providers. On a three-year view, SiteGround is a premium host, not a budget one, and it should be compared with managed hosts, not with Hostinger or Namecheap.
The honest comparison: SiteGround's renewal price is close to entry-level managed WordPress hosting from providers built for that job. If you are paying managed-hosting money, compare it with managed-hosting options, not shared hosts.
When it is worth it

- You do not want to own caching, backups or security config
- Your audience is global and you value the Google Cloud network
- The site earns enough that a few dollars a month more is noise
When it is not
- It is a hobby site or a new blog with no revenue yet
- You are comfortable installing a caching plugin and a backup plugin
- You picked it for the $2.99 rate and did not read the renewal
