Canadian publishing splits into four tiers, and where you can land a byline depends on which one you aim at and whether the story is genuinely Canadian.

The national papers and broadcasters do not run guest posts. The city and regional outlets do. The business and startup titles take practitioner analysis. The lifestyle and culture magazines are more open. The list of 100 is below, grouped by tier.

What the metrics mean

MetricWhat it isHow much it matters
Domain Rating (DR)Ahrefs' 0 to 100 score for a whole site's backlink profileA useful filter, not a verdict
Domain Authority (DA)Moz's equivalent 0 to 100 scoreSame idea as DR
Page Authority (PA)Moz's score for one specific pageMatters once you know which page your post will live on
URL Rating (UR)Ahrefs' score for one specific URLSame purpose as PA
Monthly TrafficEstimated organic visits per monthThe most honest signal that a link will be seen

Here is the deal: the Canadian market is smaller and its media has consolidated hard. A placement on a city outlet or a business title read by Canadians is worth more than a link buried in a national archive, and far more than a link on a title that has since shut down.

Domain Rating, Domain Authority, Page Authority, URL Rating and estimated monthly traffic. Every domain was checked live in September 2026; closed and merged titles were swapped for live equivalents. Metrics are third-party estimates and shift over time.

The pitch that works for Canadian editors

  1. Lead with the Canadian angle. Canadian data, a provincial or federal policy hook, or a city-specific story in the first two lines.
  2. Pitch the section or the city. "For your Toronto coverage" or "for the personal-finance desk" shows you read the outlet.
  3. Bring something a staff writer cannot get. Proprietary Canadian data, a survey of Canadian users, first-hand operator experience here.
  4. Match the format to the tier. Op-ed desks want a tight argument. City outlets want a local story. Business titles want a structured analysis.
  5. Send one clip in a similar style.
  6. Disclose any client or brand tie up front.

The test: would this editor run the piece if you had nothing to sell? If yes, pitch it. If it only exists to place a link, it goes in the bin.

What not to do

  • Pitch CBC or the Globe a "guest post." That format does not exist there.
  • Send a US-centric piece with "Canada" swapped in.
  • Use the same pitch for a national title and a small-city outlet.
  • Put exact-match anchors ("best mortgage rates Canada") on links back to your product.
  • Chase titles that have already closed. Check the site is still publishing before you pitch.

Bottom line: a handful of placements on active Canadian outlets your buyers read will move rankings and revenue more than a long list of links, some of which point at sites that no longer exist. Use this list to find your handful.

Frequently asked questions

Do national Canadian outlets like CBC or The Globe and Mail accept guest posts?

No. CBC, The Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star and the Postmedia papers commission from staff and a trusted freelance pool. They will take an op-ed submission or expert commentary tied to a live story. The realistic guest-post targets are the city and regional outlets (BlogTO, Daily Hive, the Village Media network), the business and startup titles, and the lifestyle and culture magazines.

Does the story have to be Canadian?

Yes. Canadian editors want a Canadian angle: Canadian data, a Canadian case, a provincial or federal policy hook, or a city-specific story. A US-centric pitch with 'Canada' swapped in gets passed over.

Can I link to my company or product?

One disclosed link in the author bio at most, and only where the piece is genuine analysis. Editors strip promotional links from the body. Business and finance pieces get the most scrutiny.

Why did the list change from the export?

Several well-known Canadian titles have closed or been folded into other brands since older lists were compiled: HuffPost Canada, FLARE, Food Network Canada, Elle Canada, ET Canada and Canadian Traveller among them. Those were replaced with Canadian publications that were checked live in September 2026.

The metrics do not match my SEO tool. Why?

Domain Rating and traffic estimates are recalculated constantly and differ between Ahrefs, Moz and Semrush. Several entries are a section of a larger publisher, and the Village Media local titles share infrastructure so their metrics move together.

Want us to run the outreach?

We build the shortlist by tier and city, write the pitches and the pieces with a Canadian angle, and place them on active Canadian publications. No link farms, no dead titles, no risk.
