Finance is the strictest niche in publishing. Editors are cautious, readers are sceptical, and Google holds money content to its highest quality bar.

That works in your favour if you have something real to say. A generic "5 budgeting tips" post gets deleted. A piece backed by a credential, a dataset or genuine market experience gets read.

The list of 100 is below. First, narrow it to the slice that fits what you can write.

What the metrics mean

MetricWhat it isHow much it matters
Domain Rating (DR)Ahrefs' 0 to 100 score for a whole site's backlink profileA useful filter, not a verdict
Domain Authority (DA)Moz's equivalent 0 to 100 scoreSame idea as DR
Page Authority (PA)Moz's score for one specific pageMatters once you know which page your post will live on
URL Rating (UR)Ahrefs' score for one specific URLSame purpose as PA
Monthly TrafficEstimated organic visits per monthThe most honest signal that a link will be seen

Here is the deal: in finance, credibility is the currency. Editors care more about who you are and whether the claims hold up than about your DR. A licensed adviser or a solid dataset opens doors that outreach volume never will.

The pitch that works for finance editors

  1. Lead with your credential or your data. "I'm a CFP" or "we analysed 10,000 anonymised transactions" earns the read in the first line.
  2. Pitch a specific, checkable claim. Not "how to save money". Something like "the average saver loses X to this one fee", with the working.
  3. Be compliance-aware. Frame it as education, not advice. Avoid predictions dressed as certainties. Editors in this niche have a legal team.
  4. Match their format and house style. News outlets want tight analysis. Personal-finance sites want structured how-tos.
  5. One strong clip in a similar register.
  6. Disclose any product or firm you represent up front. Non-negotiable in finance.

The test: could a compliance officer read this piece and approve it as neutral education? If yes, pitch it. If it nudges readers toward your product, an editor will see it and pass.

What not to do

  • Give specific investment or tax advice without the credentials or disclaimers to back it.
  • Stuff affiliate links to brokers, cards or loans, or point exact-match anchors at your product's signup page.
  • Make return predictions or "guaranteed" claims. Fast track to rejection, and worse.
  • Send the same pitch across sub-niches. A crypto editor and a retirement-planning editor want opposite things.
  • Chase the DR 90 news titles first. Start where a credentialed contributor can realistically land a byline.

Bottom line: in finance, a few placements on trusted, relevant sites do more for your rankings and your reputation than a long list of high-DR links, and they keep you clear of the compliance and quality risks. Use this list to find your few.

Frequently asked questions

Do finance sites really accept guest posts?

The news sites (Bloomberg, CNBC, WSJ) take expert commentary and analyst contributions, not open guest posts. Personal-finance sites, fintech publications and independent finance blogs are more open, and many run contributor programmes. Read each site's contributor or editorial page first.

Do I need credentials to write about finance?

For advice content, yes: a qualification (CFP, CFA, accountant), a licensed practice, or published research carries real weight, because finance is Your-Money-or-Your-Life territory. For data journalism, market commentary and fintech news, first-hand data or industry experience is enough.

Can I link to my brokerage, fund or fintech product from a guest post?

Usually one disclosed link in the author bio, and only if the piece is genuinely useful on its own. Editors strip promotional links from the body, and regulators take a dim view of undisclosed promotion of financial products.

Which matters more, Domain Rating or relevance?

Relevance to your exact sub-niche first, then traffic, then DR. A DR 78 personal-finance site your target reader trusts beats a DR 92 general news site that files your piece under a tag nobody reads.

The metrics do not match my tools. Why?

Domain Rating, Domain Authority and traffic estimates are recalculated constantly and differ between tools. Use them to sort the list, then re-check the two or three sites you plan to pitch.
