Home publishing splits into four tiers, and where you can land a byline depends on whether you have real projects or just opinions.
The shelter magazines do not take guest posts. The DIY and improvement brands take how-tos from experienced trades. The decor blogs are open. The real-estate platforms want data. The list of 100 is below, grouped by tier.
Pick your tier first
| Tier | Examples | How you get in |
|---|---|---|
| Shelter magazines | Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, Elle Decor, Dwell, Livingetc | Not guest posts. A contribution from a working designer or architect with a portfolio |
| DIY & improvement brands | This Old House, Bob Vila, Family Handyman, The Spruce, Bower & Branch | How-tos from experienced trades and makers, with step-by-step images or video |
| Decor & design blogs | Apartment Therapy, Remodelista, Design Milk, Hooked on Houses, Young House Love | Open to contributions; real projects, before-and-after, styling with your own photos |
| Real estate & home services | Zillow, Realtor.com, Homes.com, Angi, HomeAdvisor, HousingWire | Market data, cost breakdowns, buyer and renovation analysis |
What the metrics mean
| Metric | What it is | How much it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Domain Rating (DR) | Ahrefs' 0 to 100 score for a whole site's backlink profile | A useful filter, not a verdict |
| Domain Authority (DA) | Moz's equivalent 0 to 100 score | Same idea as DR |
| Page Authority (PA) | Moz's score for one specific page | Matters once you know which page your post will live on |
| URL Rating (UR) | Ahrefs' score for one specific URL | Same purpose as PA |
| Monthly Traffic | Estimated organic visits per month | The most honest signal that a link will be seen |
Here is the deal: home content lives or dies on the imagery. A placement on a site whose readers are mid-renovation, with your own project photos, is worth more than a link from a general lifestyle site that runs stock.
The 100 home sites
Domain Rating, Domain Authority, Page Authority, URL Rating and estimated monthly traffic. Every domain was checked live in September 2026; shut-down and merged sites were swapped for live equivalents. Metrics are third-party estimates and shift over time.

The pitch that works for home editors
- Lead with the project or the data. "We renovated a 1930s galley kitchen for GBP 9k, here is the breakdown" earns the read.
- Bring your own photography. Wide shots, detail shots, before-and-after. Home editors will not run a project without real images.
- Pitch the section. "For your small-space coverage" or "for the budget-reno series" shows you read the site.
- Match the format. Magazines want a finished project story. Improvement brands want a clear how-to. Real-estate platforms want a data piece.
- Bring the assets. A source list, a cost table, a floor plan, a materials breakdown.
- Disclose any brand, product or client involved in the project.
The test: would an editor run this if you sold nothing? If yes, pitch it. If it is a styled shot of your product range, it goes in the bin.
What not to do
- Pitch a "top 10 paint colours 2026" listicle. Every site has a rolling one.
- Submit a project with renders instead of photos of the finished space.
- Send the same pitch to a shelter magazine and a budget-DIY blog.
- Stuff affiliate links, or point exact-match anchors ("best cordless drill") at your store.
- Use AI-generated decor copy with no real project behind it.
Bottom line: a few placements on sites whose readers are actively renovating, with your own project imagery, will do more for rankings and leads than a long list of thin home-blog links. Use this list to find your few.
