Social media publishing splits into four tiers, and where you can land a byline depends on whether you have data or just tactics.

The marketing media do not take open guest posts. The tool blogs take research and education. The agency blogs want data studies. The practitioner blogs are open. The list of 100 is below, grouped by tier.

Pick your tier first

TierExamplesHow you get in
Marketing mediaSocial Media Examiner, Social Media Today, Search Engine Journal, Adweek, Content Marketing InstituteNot open guest posts. Original data, a platform-change breakdown, or expert commentary
Tool & scheduler blogsBuffer, Hootsuite, Later, Sprout Social, Agorapulse, SocialPilot, SendibleContributed education and research; how practitioners use social tools
Agency & analytics blogsBrandwatch, Talkwalker, Rival IQ, Audiense, Metricool, Keyhole, StatusbrewData studies, benchmark reports, campaign teardowns with numbers
Practitioner blogsJon Loomer, Jeff Bullas, Rebekah Radice, The Social Shepherd, Socially AheadTested tactics, first-hand results, platform experiments

What the metrics mean

MetricWhat it isHow much it matters
Domain Rating (DR)Ahrefs' 0 to 100 score for a whole site's backlink profileA useful filter, not a verdict
Domain Authority (DA)Moz's equivalent 0 to 100 scoreSame idea as DR
Page Authority (PA)Moz's score for one specific pageMatters once you know which page your post will live on
URL Rating (UR)Ahrefs' score for one specific URLSame purpose as PA
Monthly TrafficEstimated organic visits per monthThe most honest signal that a link will be seen

Here is the deal: social media marketing moves faster than almost any niche and tactics date within months. Editors want fresh data and platform changes, not another "how to use hashtags" post.

The 100 sites

Domain Rating, Domain Authority, Page Authority, URL Rating and estimated monthly traffic. Every domain was checked live in September 2026; shut-down tools and dormant blogs were replaced with active publications. Metrics are third-party estimates and shift over time.

The pitch that works

  1. Lead with the data. "We analysed 2M posts and found engagement peaks shifted 90 minutes" earns the read.
  2. Show the method. Sample size, date range, how you pulled the data. Editors reject studies they cannot assess.
  3. Pitch the section. "For your platform-updates coverage" or "for the data studies" shows you read the site.
  4. Bring the assets. Charts, the raw numbers, a downloadable data set.
  5. Match the format. Media want a data story. Tool blogs want a how-to with a workflow. Agency blogs want a benchmark report.
  6. Disclose the tool or agency behind the data.

The test: would an editor run this if you had nothing to sell? If yes, pitch it. If it exists only to place a link, it goes in the bin.

What not to do

  • Pitch a "how to grow on Instagram" post. Every site has fifty.
  • Send a data study with no methodology.
  • Write about a feature that was removed months ago.
  • Put exact-match anchors ("best social media scheduler") on links back to your tool.
  • Use AI-generated "social media trends" with no data and no named author.

Bottom line: one placement on Social Media Examiner or Sprout Social's blog, built on original data, beats a dozen links from thin "social media tips" sites.

Frequently asked questions

Do sites like Social Media Examiner accept guest posts?

Not open guest posts. They and Social Media Today commission from staff and vetted contributors and will take original research or a platform-change analysis. The tool blogs and practitioner sites are where contributed writing runs.

What gets published?

An original data study (posting-time analysis, engagement benchmarks, algorithm testing), a breakdown of a platform change with what it means for marketers, or a campaign teardown with real numbers. Generic tips do not get past the desk.

Can I link to my tool or agency?

One disclosed link in the author bio at most, and only where the piece is genuine education. Editors strip promotional links from the body.

How current does it need to be?

Very. A tactic tied to a platform feature that changed six months ago will be rejected. Lead with something from the last few weeks.

The metrics do not match my SEO tool. Why?

Domain Rating and traffic estimates are recalculated constantly and differ between tools. Several social tools on older lists (Simply Measured, Quintly, Crowdfire's blog) have since been acquired or shut.

Want us to run the outreach?

We shortlist the social media publications that carry weight, run the data study with your team, write the pitches and place them. No link farms, no risk.
